About the event

Unlock your creative potential and join us for a unique and hands-on workshop where art and science merge in the art of cyanotype printmaking.

Cyanotype is a photographic process that produces beautiful blue-toned prints through the power of sunlight.  In this workshop, you'll learn the art of cyanotype printing on fabric and discover how to turn your creations into stunning pieces that you can proudly display or gift. Artist Brittany Metz will share her expertise and passion for this unique art form, teaching you how to create stunning cyanotype prints using a variety of objects and botanical specimens. Following Brittany's demonstration, you will then go outside, harnessing sunlight to expose your very own fabric prints and fix them with water. No experience is required to participate in this class, and you will leave with your own one-of-a-kind prints mounted in embroidery hoops!

Workshop Highlights:

Introduction to cyanotype printing: Delve into the history and chemistry behind cyanotype, a photographic printing process that uses light-sensitive chemicals to create beautiful, deep blue prints on fabric.

Creating cyanotype prints: Learn how to coat your fabric with cyanotype chemicals, arrange objects or designs, and expose them to sunlight or UV light to create unique and intricate prints. We'll provide all your needed materials, including light-sensitive fabric, embroidery hoops, synthetic plants, and more.

Design and composition: Explore design principles and composition to make your embroidered cyanotype truly unique. Your finished piece will be a fusion of artistic expression and technical skill.

Hoop mounting: Discover how to mount your cyanotype-printed fabric in an embroidery hoop, transforming your artwork into a ready-to-display piece of textile art.

Sharing and inspiration: Throughout the workshop, you'll be encouraged to share your progress and ideas with fellow participants, fostering a supportive and creative community.

Take-homes: At the end of the workshop, you'll have a one-of-a-kind cyanotype print on fabric, mounted in an embroidery hoop, and ready to hang on your wall or give as a special gift.
