About the event

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printmaking methods, dating to the mid 19th century and still in use today by fine artists and documentarians. This cyanotype workshop will consist of a brief introduction to the medium and instruction on the process by Brittany Metz.

Brittany will also demonstrate how to coat paper with a sensitizer solution and provide guidance on arranging objects directly onto the surface of light-sensitive material to create photograms. Participants will then go outside, harnessing sunlight to expose the prints and fix them with water. (Please dress appropriately for the heat!)

Workshop admission is $20. All materials provided, including all necessary solutions, paper, and objects for arranging photograms, though attendees are welcome to bring their own objects for arrangement. Each participant will take home two completed 11 x 15” cyanotype prints.

Brittany Metz’s solo exhibition of cyanotypes, vinyl and sculptural collage, altered magazines, and video work is currently on view at Hollerbach’s Art Haus, open 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily.
